Musums-Consulting

Education

We have been advising museums in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy on questions of visitor orientation, education and mediation as well as museum pedagogy since 2001.

In current projects, for example, the merger of several houses under a common management is accompanied, new hybrid communication concepts are developed together with the museum management and the communication staff or a participation and dialogue-oriented communication strategy is designed for special exhibitions.

Central topics of our consulting services are:

Visitor orientation: one of the biggest challenges for museums in a culture and leisure scene shaped by digitization and edutainment is attracting new target groups. How can the analogue advantages of the museum as a place of encounter and dialogue be made attractive and visible? Which hybrid approaches and digital communication strategies are necessary?

Education and mediation: in the modern museum landscape, the management of education and mediation is increasingly being integrated into the exhibition concept, following international standards. Education is therefore no longer understood as an appendix to a curatorial concept, but is an integral part of planning exhibitions and developing a museum strategy and the mission statement of a museum. The early involvement of possible target groups is just as important as the development of educational goals and the design of the museum as a participatory and dialogue-oriented educational space.

Museum education: the targeted selection from the great variety of museum education methods such as action, dialogue, participation or experience-oriented as well as creative approaches requires a fit to the specific mediation and educational goals as well as cultural-theoretical peculiarities of the respective houses and exhibitions. Depending on the target groups and their specific educational requirements, the methods are to be developed and trained according to the context of the content.
